The Disabled Motorists Federation
THE WAY AHEAD WITH THE DISABLED MOTORISTS FEDERATION (DMF)

Newsflash

Peter Lyne, National Vice-President of the Disabled Motorists Federation, has recently been retained by Adapted Vehicle Hire Limited of Chorley, Lancashire and Uxbridge, Middlesex to help with the development of new markets for adapted vehicles for disabled drivers or passengers. Peter will continue his honorary duties with the Disabled Motorists Federation as National Vice-President.

Peter stated that he is delighted to have been given this opportunity and believes that it will lead to creating more opportunities in addressing issues relating to social inclusion, equality and diversity for disabled people. These topics will be heavily promoted in the federation's unique national/international publicity it is about to receive within the forthcoming edition of the Parliamentary Yearbook and which it is hoped will create the desire for more charities, community groups and local and central government departments to formulate networking relationships with the Disabled Motorists Federation in the near future.

John Killick and I have also agreed that thanks to the support that both the DMF and I are receiving from Adapted Vehicle Hire, we seperate their details from the links pages and allocate a full page of the website to them under the heading of Adapted Vehicles.

I will be contacting Blake within the next two days to ensure that on-line editorial for the DMF is brought totally up to date on the Parliamentary Yearbook's website and will make specific mention about the relationship secured with AVH.

With approximately 12 million people affected by disability (about 20% of the UK's population) who are in turn supported by about 6 million carers, it is important that as much as possible is done to create more inclusive, equal, diverse and safer societies for such a significant percentage of UK residents.

The Disabled Motorists Federation (DMF) (registered charity No 1012874) was established over 40 years ago with the original intention to give advice to disabled people (irrespective of the nature of their disability) and their carers on issues relating to motoring and transport matters.

Although established for so many years and despite the fact that during this time the DMF has been called upon on several occasions to give free advice to appropriate central and local government organisations (our Vice-President Peter Lyne, having participated in discussion forums held at the Palace of Westminster which have addressed issues relating to improved transport facilities and creating greater levels of social inclusion for disabled people within their respective communities), the federation has failed to qualify for any regional or national development grants and remains (like so many other charities) entirely staffed by volunteers. read more...
